Diets that Work

by on September 29, 2010

In a recent study by Women’s Health magazine, 60% of the women polled said that they would rather preserve their backside than their face!  Apparently, having curves in all the right place is more important to women that I ever imagined!  If you want to stay slim, you are going to need to find diets that work!  But, just because something works for someone else, does not mean that it is going to work for you.  So, you need to look for diets that work for you! Before we look as some of the advantages and disadvantages of certain eating plans, let’s take a look at some things to remember when looking for a diet that works for you!

Avoid Fads

One of the most important things you can do is to avoid fad diets.  Stick to things – like clean eating – that are sustainable in the long run.  You probably know that the secret to long term health is not avoiding carbohydrates, fat or eating only cabbage and foods that begin with the letter L.

Calories Matter

While a clean eating diet does not strictly require you to count calories, you are foolish if you think that that does not mean that calories matter.  The truth is that they do!  A simple diet that works is simply to reduce your caloric intake by 100 calories a day.  No, it’s not sexy and you won’t see dramatics results, but this is enough to help you to lose 10 pounds a year.

Green Tea Weight Loss?

One of the most important things to remember is that there is no magic pill.  While it would be nice if there were that just isn’t the case.  That being said, there are several things you can do to yield moderate results.  For example, by drinking green tea three times a day you can see a slight increase in your metabolism.  Trust me – you and your scale will barely notice it.  Where the real benefit comes in is from the polyphenols which are believed to help prevent cancer.  An added bonus is that green tea can help you keep alert.  Let’s face it, who doesn’t need to be more alert?

Diets that Work

Eating Clean

If you are serious about finding diets that work in the long run, clean eating is a great way to go.  Not only is it the perfect way to ensure your long term health and longevity, it is also a fairly simple system to get used to.  I would say that the biggest challenge can be that a lot of the books and magazines that focus on eating clean are, well, a little hard core.  This is fine if you are a fitness model or if healthy living just comes easy for you, but for the rest of us this can seem a little impossible.  No cheat day?  I don’t think so!  For me, eating clean in the long run involves trying to do good most of the time.  I still have weight to lose, but trust me, even if I didn’t, no one is going to be offering me a photo shoot any time soon.  I am less interested in perfection and more interested in being healthy.  Bottom line – if you are either a hardcore health buff or willing to take a more reasonable approach to clean eating, it is a way of life that can work well over the long haul.

Low-Carbohydrate

The reality is that one of the most popular diets that work is a low carb diet.  I have tried this on several occasions in my life and the truth is that it is a great way to lose weight quickly.  However, you need to be prepared to stick to a lower carbohydrate lifestyle over the long haul.  I once had a close friend who did this and it did work for her.  However, if you are like me and aren’t crazy about meat and eggs, sticking to this diet – even though it works for weight loss – is going to be very difficult over the long haul.  Add into this the fact that it can be very hard to make a low carbohydrate diet healthy and you can see why it may not be a good long term solution.

Weight Watchers

Many people find that when they are looking for diets that work, weight watchers is among the best.  This is thanks to the fact that many people find that the structure and the support system works well for them.  As someone who thrives on structure, I can definitely understand this.  I think one of the challenges I see is that you
