This is the BEST Herb Grinder!

by on October 27, 2010

I just got a new herb grinder and I just had to share with you guys!  I will be honest- when I first saw the herb grinder last month in InStyle Magazine, I was not even in the market for new kitchen tools.  The fact that I now own this little cutie is a true testament to the fact that I can justify anything.

Buy it Now!

Let me explain – Now that I have committed to creating my own Quinoa Cookbook and I am going to be doing a lot of cooking testing brand new recipes (shhh…don’t tell anyone), I decided to treat myself to a few new kitchen gadgets.  One of them was this adorable little herb grinder.  I shopped around a little bit before I picked this one.  I looked at a metal herb grinder, and electric herb grinder – I was actually surprised at just how many herb grinders are on the market.  But in the end, I came back to this one and I am so glad that I did!

Now I know you are probably saying “How can you possibly be so excited over a herb grinder?”

My strange ability to get excited over kitchen gadgets aside, this grinder is not only really cute but it also works.  Because I am someone who really uses kitchen tools, I just won’t tolerate ones that don’t work well.  What I like is that I can fill it with fresh leaves and stow it in the freezer to preserve them until I am ready to chop.  I rely on fresh herbs very heavily in my cooking, especially when I am cooking quinoa, but it seems that I can almost never use them all before they go bad.  My husband is always getting upset with me when he finds out that fresh herbs go unused in the refrigerator.  Since I am committed to organic cooking, these herbs are not exactly cheap.  Now with the Fresh Mill Herb Grinder, I have a great and hassle free way of keeping them fresh until I have time to use them all.  Best of all I because it has a built in mincer, I can mince them directly in the container that they are frozen in without making a mess.  (And believe me, since I just might be the messiest person alive in the kitchen, I need all the help I can get in this department.) The only down side is that since I use so many different fresh herbs, I really need another one.  :)

In addition to its functionality, there are two more things that I really love about this herb grinder.  The first is its size.  We travel most of the time and I am always taking my “mobile kitchen” with me.  This fits right in because it is only 3 x 3 x 4.5 and weighs just 8 ounces.  This is definitely not a large herb grinder but it really works for me!  It is also dishwasher safe which is absolutely critical for me.  Few things make me crankier than having to wash dishes by hand.

Don’t just take my word for it, this herb grinder won not one but two gold medals from the Lepine contest, which is international.  It really is an innovative product.

The bottom line – if you are in the market for a herb grinder that works and actually saves time in the kitchen, you can’t go wrong with the Fresh Mill Herb Storage and Mill!  Not only does it save you time but it saves money by eliminating waste in the kitchen.  Even my husband can’t argue with that!

Would this work for even tough herbs? I need one that will do Usnea? That stuff is so hard to grind into a powder.

Hi Audy! I don’t think this this is tough enough for that. I’m not familiar with it but I wouldn’t call this a “heavy duty” herb grinder by any stretch.
