Raisels – A Delicious and Healthy Snack

by on February 28, 2011

Recently I was given the opportunity to try a brand new snack called Raisels.

I was cautiously optimistic.

The idea is sound – fruit flavored raisins that taste like candy.  And the mom in me love that they are cholesterol free, fat free and lacking high fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners. (The last two are big no-no’s in my house!)

But still – you’ve heard me talk about how picky my kids are about food.  In case you missed the post, my oldest refused to eat an entire bottle of yellow mustard because we were visiting my parents and I couldn’t buy the 365 organic brand that he was used to.  Seriously – that PICKY! (I couldn’t even tell a difference!)  Because I have vowed to always be honest, there was a little part of me that was afraid that this post was going to be along the lines of “I tried this out and while my kids didn’t like them I’m sure yours would.”

When the box arrived I made a big production of it and crossed my fingers.  My boys thought it was really fun getting snacks in the mail, but I could tell that my six year old was a little worried that I was planning on making him eat something terrible.

And then something magical happened.

The boys tried it.

And both of them like it.

Now, not only are my children picky eaters, but they rarely agree on anything when it comes to food.  One likes mustard, the other one ketchup.  One could live on pizza and the other one won’t touch it.  To date, the only thing I can really think of that brings cheers from both of them is my macaroni and cheese recipe.

They both LOVED raisels.  (Although different flavors, of course!)  The sour orange was a big hit with my six year old while sour peach and apple were winners with my youngest.  My dad loved the lemon and thought it tasted like the lemon drop candy he had when he was a kid.

I was convinced that we would never eat all that Raisels and Team Mom had so generously sent us because even when they like food my children tend to bore of them quickly.  Let me tell you – these babies had staying power.  My youngest turned five last week and I asked him what he wanted for his birthday and more raisels was on his list. (LOL)

In his honor, I came up with this recipe that I thought I would share with you today!
